Chichester Falcons paid a visit to Gosport for the first time on Sunday and put in a fine performance against The Vikings as they continue their pursuit to return to Division One.
Short stop James Blackall set the scene with a lead-off home run, followed immediately by a big second base hit from outfielder Molly Rayner. The Falcons continued to pepper the Vikings outfield and were nine runs ahead going into the second inning.
The Vikings came right back into the game with some assured fielding and big hits of their own to bring the score back to 11-10, however the Falcons continued to target the outfield where the bright sunshine was becoming a problem for both teams. Outfielder Martin Ford picked up a huge home run and Lucy Morris a timely third base hit as the Falcons extended their advantage to 20-12.
Pitcher Jason Mercer then kept the Vikings batters at bay, catching a devilish low comebacker and fizzing ground balls to Yuka Wada who was delivering an outstanding performance at first base. Another home run from Ford, triples from outfielder Russ Percy and third baseman James Wheeler, and a fifth hit from five for catcher Liz Boardman, put the Falcons out of sight.
Blackall and second base Amy Morris had been an effective infield pairing throughout the game and Morris took the final out with a routine 6-4 play to give The Falcons a deserved 31-14 win.
