Falcons cruise past Brewers to go 3 for 3

Chichester Falcons continued their successful 2022 campaign with a comfortable win over Baffins Brewers last week, in a Solent League division one fixture in the sunshine at Southsea.

The Falcons hit first and wasted no time as pitcher Jason Mercer and third baseman James Wheeler clubbed their way onto base to start up a five run first inning. A promising start for Sarah d'Agar at second base saw her walk and then finish the game with 100% OBP, while Molly Rayner, in her first game of the season, repeatedly pounded doubles out to centre field. Brewers responded well with three runs of their own but the second inning brought eleven runs for the Falcons, who batted nearly twice around the order to put themselves well ahead with the game barely started.

James Blackall at shortstop capably dealt with most hits sent his way and Mercer handled a few comebackers before piling into third base awkwardly later in the game, injuring his knee in the process, but managed to finish the game. Stefan Panayotopoulos managed to keep the runs coming in for Falcons through the middle innings as Brewers tacked on two each inning until the fifth, thwarted each time by Amy Morris keeping a tidy first base to catch her infield throws.

Somehow neither team managed to score in the final two innings as the game somewhat petered out with only d'Agar, Blackall, Wheeler and Rayner reaching base but by then the Falcons were well ahead and shut out the Brewers to take it 22-10.
