Falcons dispatch Dodgers in season opener

Chichester Falcons Softball Club began their 2022 Solent League campaign with a win over Portsmouth Dodgers at Oaklands Park.

Due to heavy rain, the start was postponed slightly but as the sky began to clear, the Falcons took the field and limited the Dodgers to just one run thanks to a decent running catch by Josh Bristow in left field.

The Falcons were even with one swing of Dave Piesse's bat as he steered the ball way over the heads of the Dodgers' outfield, and James Wheeler added to the board with another home run shortly after, to bring in Bristow.

From that point on, the Falcons kept the Dodgers on a steady diet of singles and doubles as Chichester hit steadily and kept a tight infield; Piesse was typically clinical with two high catches and a pair of perfectly-timed precision throws across the diamond to Amy Morris on first base.

The Dodgers failed to score after the third inning while David Morris, Jason Mercer and Wheeler all hit four-for-four on the day to bring their score to 13-6 at the end of the game.
