Falcons top Shafters on takeoff
Chichester Falcons Softball Club got their season off to a flying start with a win against Portsmouth University Shafters on 19th April.
The Falcons got ahead immediately by putting up 6 runs in the first inning, with the first 5 batters in the lineup all getting on base, ready for outfielder Clive Janes to bring everybody home to score with a fierce line drive down past third base. The Shafters responded with 4 runs of their own but shortstop Nick Harris athleticism restricted them to infield hits to keep the Falcons ahead.

The onslaught continued as the Falcons clubbed in a further 12 runs in the second and third, with Ally Warr hitting a three run homer while debutants Sammy Joyce and Paige Muggeridge both hitting impressively to keep the runs coming in. With the game already out of the Shafters reach by the fourth, Peter Martin and James Mortimore caught a routine flyball each as Louise Rowe earned two walks to add to the Portsmouth sides frustration.
Jason Mercer capped things off well with a couple of strikeouts and first baseman David Morris hit an RBI double in the fifth to end the game early at 23-12.
